How may a Driveway Heating System help you?
Installing a heated driveway, whether for a home or business, ensures you're ready for unpredictable winter weather. Driveway Heating offers peace of mind, particularly in areas with high foot traffic or sloped driveways. Snow melting mats and heating cables are installed beneath pavers, asphalt, or concrete during construction, guaranteeing that the driveway or walkway remains free of snow and ice.
What Is a Heated Driveway?
The Driveway Heating system functions automatically when connected to a controller and offers a variety of control options. Most systems use sensors to monitor temperature, moisture, and precipitation, which trigger the system to heat the surface just above freezing. Manually operated timer systems, on the other hand, can fall short during heavy snow if they are activated too late.
The Driveway Heating System syncs with weather forecasts to start heating before snow begins to fall.
For a faster installation, snow melting mat systems come with pre-arranged mats and heating cables spaced for efficiency. Loose cables work well for complex designs and custom layouts.
Installation of a Driveway Heating System
A snow melting system can be installed on an existing surface when a new driveway or walkway is being laid. One of the most cost-effective and efficient options is heating tire tracks, which offers significant savings both upfront and in the long run. There are also various other coverage designs available. Depending on the type of controller used, it is possible to connect a heated area of up to 1,600 square feet. For more details, consult the installation guide for specific instructions and best practices.
Heating Asphalt and Concrete Driveways
Driveway Heating's snow melting mats can be embedded into asphalt or concrete before an additional 2-inch layer is poured or installed over a gravel foundation with adequate drainage.
Heating the Driveway Under Pavers
Heated walkway pavers combine aesthetic appeal with functionality. During paver installation, snow melting mats or cables are placed over a well-drained gravel base. Afterward, a layer of sand or fine gravel, at least one inch deep, is added before laying the pavers.

– Three-phase wiring can be used with specific mats and cables. For further information, get in touch with Driveway Heating.
– The output of a standard mat is 50 W/sqft. The output can change depending on the wiring and de-rating. For instance, 42w/sqft will be the output of a 240V mat connected at 208V. In the majority of regions, driveway snow melting requires at least 35 watts per square foot.
– Cables with a 3-inch spacing between them will have an output of 50 watts per square foot, or 12 watts per linear foot. For an output of 42w/sqft, we advise using a 4-inch wire spacing.
– Items unfit for use in 347V or 120V applications
Price
The cost of installing a heated driveway system is roughly $10 per square foot, depending on the coverage area. Opting for the tire-track design can be a practical solution. For instance, controls for a fully heated 20x30-inch driveway may exceed $5,000. However, creating two heated tire tracks, each thirty feet long, in front of garage doors would cost approximately $2,400 while still providing a snow-free route.
Controller prices vary, ranging from $500 for basic models to $3,500 for WiFi-enabled systems. Additionally, large commercial installations are protected.
